Overview

Tucked deeply into the Parvati Valley of Kullu District along the banks of the roaring Parvati River at an altitude of 1,580 meters (5,180 feet), Kasol is a world-famous mountain haven for backpackers, trekkers, and nature lovers. Surrounded by towering pine forests, granite cliffs, and snow-capped Himalayan peaks, Kasol offers a tranquil bohemian vibe, riverside cafes, and access to some of the most spectacular wilderness treks in Himachal Pradesh.

Kasol is geographically divided into Old Kasol and New Kasol by a bridge over the Parvati River. The town is famous for its vibrant cafe culture, serving authentic Israeli, Himachali, Italian, and continental cuisine alongside organic coffee. The peaceful trails along the pine-fringed banks of the Parvati River offer serene walks where travelers can sit by rushing turquoise waters and soak in the crisp alpine mountain air.

Kasol serves as the primary base camp for iconic Himalayan treks. A short 30-minute hike across a suspension bridge leads to Chalal, a quiet traditional village surrounded by tall deodars. Further up the Parvati Valley lie Tosh village—known for its wooden houses, apple orchards, and views of Tosh Glacier—and Malana, an isolated ancient village famous for its unique democratic customs, traditional Kanashi language, and strict social protocols.

Another major highlight is the multi-day trek to Kheerganga (3,050 meters), a sacred mountain meadow featuring natural geothermal hot springs where Lord Shiva is believed to have meditated for thousands of years. Just 5 km from Kasol lies Manikaran Sahib, a holy pilgrimage center for both Sikhs and Hindus featuring hot sulfur springs with natural curative properties, a historic Gurudwara, and Shiva temples.

Kasol is best visited from April to June and September to November. Shiv Bhumi Travel Agency organizes Kasol holiday packages, guided trekking escorts for Kheerganga and Tosh, hotel and riverside tent camping stays, and private transfers from Kullu/Bhuntar Airport, Chandigarh, and Delhi.
